South African Navy

  • I want information and photos of a kind of attack boat - "Namakura" or "Namakurra", I am not sure - emplyed by the South African Navy

  • I have some information about the vessel but did not find any photos. Do you want my information as an answer even though no photos could be found? Regards; tutuzdad-ga - Google Answers Researcher

  • According to Jane's Fighting Ships, the official name of this boat is NAMACURRA CLASS (INSHORE PATROL CRAFT): http://www.janes.com/company/catalog/tocdata/jfs/country.shtml Here the boats are referred to as Namacurra-class Harbour Protection Boats: http://www.southerncape.co.za/heritage/maritime/sanavy.html The name Namacurra apparently comes from a district in Mozambique: http://www.worldwide-missions.co.za/moz.html

  • Hello rongkim, The correct spelling appears to be Namakura and there is surprisingly little online that I could find about them. The following two pages have small images. http://www.sea.uct.ac.za/selwyn/sbsw.htm http://www.allatsea.co.za/stamps/sanavystamps.htm Regards, -=clouseau=-

  • Generally reffered to as HPB's these are still in wide usage in South Africa http://www.ports.co.za/navalnews/article_2003_01_4_3846.html

  • To clarify, I have information concerning the vessel's dimensions, displacement and armament as well as a couple of brief statements about it's capabilities. I am prepared to post it as an answer if you like. Regards; tutuzdad-ga - Google Answers Researcher
