Safety regulation on aircraft - knitting needles

  • This is an easy one, but I can't get access to the FAA regulations for some reason and my flight is very soon. I need to print out a copy of the regulations that say that knitting needles are allowed on aircraft now, if they indeed are. Can someone help me find a page that repeats this info, or a cached version of it that I can print out and take with me through security? I'll tip an extra $5 if I have an answer in by Saturday, July 26, 10 a.m. CST. Thank you in advance!

  • Hello cninety9, Thank you for your question. The following is the result of my research regarding carrying knitting needles in a carry-on baggage on an aircraft. A report was issued by the FAA titled 'FAA Advises Air Travelers on Airport - Airline Security Measures’ Included in the report are items prohibited from aircraft cabins: “-Items prohibited from aircraft cabins- The following items must be placed in, or transported as, checked baggage or risk confiscation: Knives of any length, composition or description Cutting instruments of any kind and composition, including carpet knives and box cutters (and spare blades), any device with a folding or retractable blade, ice picks, straight razors, metal scissors, and metal nail files Corkscrews Baseball/softball bats Golf clubs Pool cues Ski poles Hockey sticks When in doubt, transport item in checked baggage” Permitted items are: Walking canes and umbrellas (once inspected to ensure prohibited items are not concealed) Nail clippers Safety razors (including disposable razors) Syringes (with documented proof of medical need) Tweezers Eyelash curlers The complete report can be found here: http://www1.faa.gov/avr/afs/news/Current_Issue/security.htm The FAA website is having some temporary difficulties so if you have problems opening the above page, the cached page can be found here: http://216.239.37.104/search?q=cache:7fK1umgdrwEJ:www.faa.gov/avr/afs/news/Current_Issue/security.htm+prohibited+items+knives+%22carry+on%22+site:FAA.gov&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 Source: - FAA: Federal Aviation Administration - http://www2.faa.gov/ ******************************************* Other pages found on the FAA site that may be of interest to you: http://www.asy.faa.gov/asy_internet/Flysmart/obey.html http://asi.faa.gov/Prohibited.asp ******************************************* The following is found on the Travizon website and is titled ‘Traveler Tips Regarding New Security Measures & New FAA Regulations’ “The following is a list of items strictly forbidden from carry-on luggage, by British Airways. • Thanks for the help. This tell me I'm probably safest not bothering with them, not what I wanted to hear - but better I know now than at the airport.

  • Hi cninety9, I have located a list issued by the FAA of both restricted and permitted items that you can carry into the aircraft cabins. However, neither list includes knitting needles. Would this be what you are looking for? Let me know what you decide. Regards, rainbow~

  • Hi cninety9, I'm glad I could be of help. Thank you for the rating and tip. Best regards, rainbow~
